President's Letter
October 9, 2009

Imagination is more important than knowledge. -- Albert Einstein

From the mind of the President…

Dear Members,

Do you ever wonder where time goes? I just don’t get it. Seems it goes faster as you get older…is that even possible? Well, regardless, it has been a long time since I have written a letter to you all. And the club has gone through many changes since I last wrote a President’s letter.

Our board has changed, for one, and we are about to have nominations for a new board. Our dark site at the Magby’s is no more, for another. And we are still in search for a new NHAC dark site. Aaron has gotten the Observatory at Jack Field’s Elementary School running with the help of many of our members working along side of him. It is exciting to see how many of our club members are out in the community sharing their expertise.

Speaking of sharing, this month you have a huge opportunity to share your time and expertise with the public by volunteering to help at the Regional Meeting on Friday, October 23rd and Astronomy Day on Saturday, October 24th. If you have not had the opportunity to share in this experience in the past I suggest you try it out this year. If you have helped in the past you know how much your help is needed and appreciated and how rewarding it can be to spend some time giving to these two events. Please check out the information on our website www.astronomyclub.org by clicking on the top banner for these events to see how you can help.

Due to these two events we will not be holding our usual meeting in October, but we all look forward to seeing everyone back at the college on Friday, November 9th. We will be voting on the by-law changes at this meeting and will, also, have the Nominating Committee present those nominations to date for office. In December we will be voting for our new board.

Till we meet again,
Lorrie Patel
President, North Houston Astronomy Club
