The February novice session will focus on the March Conjunctions and Equinox, and introduce Stellarium.  Participants are encouraged to bring their laptop, tablet, or smartphone with Stellarium already loaded.  Stellarium is free and works in Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, or even in a webpage.  See stellarium.org for download information.  Learning and using Stellarium will be featured in all novice sessions starting in February.

The general meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m.

It will feature Stephen Hummel, Dark Skies Specialist at the McDonald Observatory. His presentation will be:

A History of the McDonald Observatory

We will learn about the history and design of the major telescopes at the observatory.  These include the 2.1m Otto Struve, the 2.7m Harlan J. Smith, and the 10m Hobby-Eberly.  In addition to the telescopes’ design, we will also hear about the numerous discoveries they have made.
