From My Perspective

by Aaron Clevenson, President

Thank you all for your support, encouragement and trust. I am following in the footsteps of some great presidents of the North Houston Astronomy Club, and filling those shoes is a bit daunting. They have led our club to what we are today, and I look forward to continuing our progress. Specifically, I would like to thank Juan Carlos Reina, outgoing President, for leading us through the last year. Great job! We appreciate all you have done. I would also like to thank those members of the Board who are now moving on. Thank you Henry Norton for a great year as Observation Chair; good luck with the hardware store. Thank you Kelsey Norton for a great year as Membership Chair; good luck as you move on to college. We look forward to reading about you as one of the Great Astronomers in the future. Do great things!

I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce you to your Board Members for 2007. Many have served for years and make all the pieces of the club's activities come together. Juan Carlos Reina is now the Vice President and is responsible for the novice and advanced sessions. Lorrie Patel is now the Secretary, Robert "Mac" McMillan continues as Treasurer, and John Lane is the now the Newsletter Editor. Bill Leach is now the a Observation Chair, Tom Rice continues as the Program Chair, and Geraldina Reina is joining the Board as the new Membership Chair. Please join me in welcoming these volunteers to their roles in 2007, and thanking them for their time and efforts.

I find myself thinking about what I hope we accomplish in 2007. I keep coming back to our club's motto: Observe... Learn... Share...! Through our members, this is what makes our club great. My objective for 2007 will be to follow this motto. We will develop a new dark site and have multiple sites available to the membership on any clear night. We will continue to have family and novice oriented barbecues. We will share and expand our knowledge through the North Star newsletter, Novice and Advanced sessions, and the monthly meetings.
