Join us Friday, July 26 back at Jack Fields Elementary School in Humble for our monthly gathering!
At 6:30 we will have the FYI session with Aaron Clevenson: Going South
Here in Houston, at 30 degrees North, we are prevented from seeing the southernmost 30 degrees of the sky. This includes some very fine gems. Come join us for a quick tour and travel log.
Then at 7:30, we have Justin McCollum with a presentation on Exploring the Nature and Weirdness of Globular Clusters –
Globular clusters are among the mightiest of cosmological mysteries within the Universe. Unknown before the invention of the telescope, these ancient oases of ancient stars provide clues and potential discoveries into many continuing unknowns about galactic evolution. The patterns of star formation, stellar chemistry, and kinematic, gravitational, and magnetic interactions with galaxies can provide information to reveal the mysteries of the early ages of the Universe.
This presentation explores the nature and unknown questions and mysteries of the morphology, structure, and dynamic effects within globular clusters, but some of the weirdness attributed to these objects. Some globular clusters are usually young, contain mixed populations of stars that could lead to discovering a third classification of star clusters, and have embedded black hole clusters. We will explore these strange features and the differences in the weird characteristics between different globular clusters.
See you there!
